Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look mismatched, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
