An individual who laced treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two children aged nine and 10.

The defendant was detained after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She said his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "This year his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.

"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his worries.

She said Ruben went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
